“The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do” Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple
The easiest way to change the world, even a just a little, is to work within your purpose in life. To find your life purpose you have to live your life purpose first.
Today…Try this “Pride Exercise”
Create 4 Columns with the following headings: Accomplishments, Activities, Skills and Knowledge and Sources of Excitement. See the descriptions below.
Identify the things that you have done in your life that are a source of real pride for you. Pick 3 top 10 examples of where you achieved something that you were proud of and where you truly enjoyed yourself in the process, and list these under “Accomplishments”.
In this column, list the things that you do or did that led you to the Accomplishments that you listed.
Skills and Knowledge:
In this column, list the skills that you had to use or develop in order to complete the activities described as Accomplishments. Take particular note of the skills you used in more than one of your accomplishments because these are your strengths. Also, take note of the skills and knowledge that you enjoy using the most and that you would like to use in your future work.
For some help with this list check out this great resource that highlights the Employability Skills that employers are looking for.
Sources of Excitement:
Reflect on what excited you about the Accomplishments that you have listed? Your sources of excitement give you insight into your interests and values.
This exercise will help you to determine what gives you pride and will be a visual assessment of what your purpose in life is. It is sometimes helpful to verify your self-understanding with others who know you well. Share the strengths, interests and values that you have identified. People who know you can help you expand your lists.
